Job Summary

• The Nutrition Manager is responsible for the planning, implementation and reporting of IMC’s nutrition activities in Afghanistan, with collaboration of the Nutrition Coordinator and other IMC senior management staff. The Nutrition Manager will support the Nutrition Coordinator on the development of the nutrition interventions and ensure coordination, planning, monitoring and management of program activities implemented. This will involve working with different support departments in IMC to ensure timely and effective monitoring and evaluation of nutrition program activities and impact. The Nutrition Manager will be responsible for day-to-day programme implementation and monitoring ensuring that the programme effectively and efficiently achieves its objectives in accordance with IMC’s guidelines and principles and donor requirements. Additionally, he/she will be responsible for external coordination with the Nutrition Cluster, Public Nutrition Directorate (PND) of MoPH and other Nutrition Actors.

The IMC Jobs in Kabul, (Roving Nutrition Manager) will have responsibilities that include:

• Oversee the implementation of all nutrition activities including the roll out of family MUAC approach, supply request for nutrition supplies, IMAM activities, strengthen Maternal, Infant and Young Child Nutrition (MIYCN) interventions and ensure that activities are in line with the Nutrition cluster recommendation and Afghanistan guidelines.
• Support with proposal development by providing up-to-date context-specific technical inputs and feasibility data from the field team.
• Develop reports for IMC and donor reports as requested, in collaboration with the Nutrition Officers and other departments as needed.
• Manage project budget by reviewing monthly budget versus actual report with timeline and objectives in mind.
• Identify procurement needs in collaboration with officers and raise procurement requests on time for the HSCs/MHNTs and coordinate with logistics team for delivery.
• Monitor achievement against indicators on monthly basis by reviewing reported achievements from the provincial nutrition teams.
• With the support of Nutrition Coordinator, develop and maintain project tools that support implementation and review of progress, such as workplans and trends analysis.
• Collect and compile OPD SAM, OPD MAM and MIYCN reports from provincial officers and provide feedback to the team.
• Regular follow up with officers on submission of nutrition data and fulfilling of nutrition data entry in online PND databases.
• Work closely with the Accountability and Learning department to ensure project activities have proper feedback mechanisms and develop learning lessons to continuously refine activities.
• Liaise with support and program quality departments such as finance, procurement, logistics, human resources, health, management information system (HMIS), to ensure projects are implemented efficiently.
• Manage the details of referral mechanisms between nutrition and other departments, especially food security assistance.
• Actively coordinate, design and promote the integration of nutrition within other IMC programmes as appropriate e.g. Health, protection, MHPSS, FSL and WASH.
• Ensure all program vacancies are filled in time in coordination with the HR department in line with the recruitment process.
• Support Nutrition Coordinator at identifying technical training needs, developing training materials that are technically sound and providing the training to the project staff.
• Represent IMC in external meetings, by attending cluster meetings and actively participate in technical working groups, while maintaining strong relationships with nutrition actors, UN Agencies, and MOPH.
• Field Travels to provincial offices to meet with the nutrition team for supportive supervision, coordination meetings and provision of technical training.
• Other related tasks as requested by the Nutrition Coordinator.

Job Requirment

• Afghan National.

• Bachelor’s degree level (or equivalent qualification) in nutrition, science, public health, or any other relevant field. Knowledge of nutrition programs especially IMAM and MIYCN. TOT in nutrition programs is preferred.  

  Experience:

• At least 4 years’ experience in nutrition project design and implementation working in an INGO or NGO in Afghanistan.
• Minimum 3 years of relevant experience in nutrition related humanitarian programming in a senior or program management position.
• At least 2 years’ experience with program/project budget development and management, donor reporting, proposal development, operations and program management.
• Competence:
• Excellent grasp of MS office package.
• Sufficient experience in leading teams effectively and enthusiastically with sufficient communication and interpersonal skills.
• Good communication skills in English at mid-range to advanced level with particularly excellent writing skills in English.
• Good communication skills in native Dari and Pashto languages or at advanced level.
• Humanitarian experience in nutrition programs in Afghanistan (IMAM, MIYCN and Nutrition surveys/assessments)
• Conversant with Nutrition Information Management Systems.
