Job Summary
- The Disability Specialist is responsible to determines eligibility for disability services and coordinates students’ access to project services with disabilities. Reviews medical, psychological and technical evaluations of students’ abilities, disabilities, and requests for reasonable services. Develops plans to support access to courses, programs, facilities, services, and activities on campus. Advocates to increase the understanding and support at the community level. Additionally, the role involves coordinating with partner NGOs to enhance collaborative efforts and maximize impact.
The Disability Specialist ( Female are highly encouraged to apply for this position) will have responsibilities that include:
- Reviews disability documentation of functional limitations to determine eligibility for services and to substantiate requests for reasonable services.
- Assesses the interaction of the student’s disability with the academic environment and develops a plan for the provision of reasonable services to facilitate equitable opportunities.
- Coordinates communication between NGOs and communities and prospective and enrolled students with disabilities, and provides on-going consultation and technical assistance to relevant stakeholders and staff to facilitate equal learning opportunities.
- Provides information, referral, and support to prospective and enrolled students with disabilities.
- Assists students in understanding their disabilities and their rights and responsibilities relating to reasonable services.
- Provide training and guidance to After School Learning Center teachers, Staff and partner NGOs on inclusive education and assistive devices.
- Coordinate with partner NGOs to align strategies, share resources, and enhance the impact of disability services and inclusive education initiatives.
- Advocate for the rights and needs of students with disabilities and promoting equal access to education.
- Conduct assessments to determine the specific needs and assistive devices required for students with disabilities.
- Provides support and problem-solving assistance to individuals and groups.
- Maintains strict confidentiality in verbal and written communications.
- Maintains knowledge of current legislation and national, state, and local issues affecting access for students with disabilities.
- Documents, maintains and reviews current and accurate case records, notes and related information in electronic and manual files.
- Establish a safeguarding culture across all level of the program by implementing the safeguarding policy. Act as a key source of support, guidance and expertise on safeguarding for establishing a safe working environment.
- Responsible to ensure team members are appropriately trained, supported and have access to resources regarding issues that are identified and actioned in accordance with the safeguarding policy and procedure.
- Follow the safeguarding reporting procedure in case any reportable incident takes place, encourage others to do so.
Job Requirment
- At least 3 years’ experience working with students with designated disabilities and Education sector.
- Bachelor’s degree in Rehabilitation Counseling, Special Education, Psychology, Social Work, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
- Proven experience working with individuals with disabilities in an educational setting.
- Ability to assess individual needs
- Good command in computer
- Fluency in English and local languages
- Willingness to visit field (60% of official time)
- Knowledge of the principles and practices of medical, psychological, and technical evaluations of disabilities.
- Knowledge of national, state and local laws regarding access for people with disabilities.
- Knowledge of the MoE policies and programs related to disability services.
- Knowledge of community resources for people with disabilities.
- Skill in developing and delivering specialized professional consultations and training on disability issues.
- Skill in working with people with a variety of disabilities.
- Skill in analyzing requests for reasonable accommodations and developing and implementing plans for the provision of reasonable accommodations.
- Skill in effectively communicating complex technical matters related to disabilities both verbally and in writing
