Job Summary
- The REACH Assessment Analyst is responsible for overseeing the operationalization of the Humanitarian Situation Monitoring (HSM) research cycle - a quarterly nationwide Key Informant level assessment. This includes assisting in research design, developing the Kobo tool, contributing to key findings, and overseeing data cleaning logs. The analyst is also responsible for coordinating assessment activities with the field team, data team, and GIS, and assisting in drawing key findings when necessary. It is crucial for the analyst to ensure that the assessment cycle aligns with the strategic goals of the humanitarian response.
The ACTED Jobs in Kabul, (REACH Assessment Analyst) will have responsibilities that include:
- Programme Cycle Management:
- Research Cycle Operationalization: Lead the operational aspects of the HSM research cycle, ensuring that all phases, from research design to data cleaning, are effectively managed and executed according to established timelines and standards.
- Research Design Assistance: Collaborate closely with senior analysts and managers to refine the research design, ensuring that the methodology is sound and aligned with the strategic goals of the humanitarian response.
- Data Quality Assurance: Oversee the data cleaning process, ensuring that all collected data is accurate, reliable, and ready for analysis. This includes developing and maintaining data cleaning logs and SOPs.
- Process Monitoring: Regularly monitor the progress of the research cycle, identifying any operational bottlenecks or issues and proactively addressing them to keep the cycle on track.
- Contextual Understanding:
- Afghanistan Context Familiarity: Maintain a thorough understanding of the humanitarian landscape in Afghanistan, particularly as it pertains to the operational challenges that may affect data collection and research implementation.
- Humanitarian Structure Insight: Be knowledgeable about the humanitarian coordination mechanisms in Afghanistan, including relevant clusters and working groups, to ensure that the research design and implementation are contextually appropriate.
- Technical Skills:
- Research Methodology Support: Provide technical support in the development and refinement of research methodologies, with a focus on operational feasibility and effectiveness in the field.
- Tool Development: Lead the development and customization of data collection tools, such as Kobo forms, ensuring they are user-friendly and capable of capturing the necessary data accurately.
- Data Management: Take primary responsibility for the operational aspects of data management, including setting up data cleaning protocols, ensuring data integrity, and preparing datasets for analysis.

- Team Integration: Work closely with the assessment, operations, data, and GIS teams to ensure seamless integration of all components of the research cycle, focusing on operational efficiency.

- Adherence to Standards: Ensure that all operational aspects of the research cycle adhere to global standards and best practices, coordinating with IMPACT HQ as needed.
- External Coordination
- Partner Collaboration: Coordinate with relevant clusters, working groups, and external partners to ensure that the operational aspects of the research are aligned with broader humanitarian objectives and that partners are informed about the research process.
- Representation: Attend relevant external meetings to discuss operational aspects of the research, and relay key operational insights to the broader mission team.
- Confidentiality and Data Protection
- Data Confidentiality: Uphold the highest standards of confidentiality regarding all data and operational processes, actively preventing unauthorized access or sharing of sensitive information.
- Compliance with Data Protection Laws: Ensure that all operational activities comply with relevant data protection regulations, safeguarding the privacy and security of the collected data.
Job Requirment
- A strong academic background with a BA in economics, statistics, computer science, international development, social science, or related fields.
- 2-3 years of research experience.
- Basic understanding of data management, data cleaning, sampling, and statistics. - Proficiency in research design, indicator selection, MS Excel, data analysis, interpretation, effective presentation, and reporting.
- Familiarity with policies, procedures, and regulations, especially those of governments, donors, and INGOs, in the context of assessments.
- It is essential for the analyst to have familiarity with the humanitarian response and context in Afghanistan, as well as with assessment and research, clusters, and working groups.
- Experience in communicating with authorities and government officials.
- Experience working with external actors.
- Familiarity with the aid system and an understanding of donor and governmental requirements is an asset
- Fluency in English is required and excellent communication skills.
